2016

A big "Hello" goes out to everyone.  Yes, I am still around.  We are having a weird winter this year.  It has been unusually warm, which I don't mind!  We are suppose to get our first inch of snow tonight.  Hopefully that is all we get.

I was on Pintrest today and was amazed to see all the lovely patterns for the Preemies.  Good job everyone.  I am still making fleece blankets and crocheting some hats.  I mostly am making the hats on looms.  They work up just as fast as crocheting.  I have now donated over 3,000 hats and over 4,000 blankets for the babies.  I have also started making adult hats on my Addi Knitting Machine and have donated hats to the homeless and the local soup kitchen.

Hope everyone is enjoying the free patterns.

Have a good one.....Nan

Fall 2015

Hello everyone.  Thank you all for making this blog such a success.  I do hope you are using the pretty patterns to make items for the Preemies.

The seasons fly too fast at times.  It is Fall already.  Our leaves are at peak colors now and just beautiful.  I enjoy every ride I take in the car.  Only too soon the leaves will be gone and the snow will fly.

I do continue to make blankets and hats with a few gowns at times.  I bought two Addi Knitting Machines that help make hats.  The small one is for babies and the larger one is for adult hats.  I have a stash of hats and blankets made and will be mailing them out soon.  I have also donated 100 hats to the Soup Kitchen in the next town.  The lady in charge loved the donation.  There are a few ladies that donate hats and blankets to me to send where ever they are needed.

My grand total of all the items I have made and sent out to date are:
Hats 2,593.   Blankets 3,360,  Sacs 55,  and Gowns 119.  Now these numbers do not include the items made and sent by others that have donated them, or the ones made and not sent yet.  I am really proud of this fact, but so sad that there are so many babies in need.     So please use the patterns and give them to those in need.

Have a good one ....... Nan

Winter 2014 to 2015

I guess we can call it the Winter of 2014 to 2015.  It really is cold in these hills.  I am thankful I don't need to go outside as often.  This morning it was -20.  The sun came out and it is now 18 degrees.  Warm up.

I have been working hard on hats, fleece blankets and gowns.  There is still a demand for them.  Recently I was in touch with a new Hospital.  There is no NICU there but they still have Maternity.  They do have a few babies that don't make it and don't really have anyone to make them things for the babies.  The Nurse did say they make Memory boxes and could use blankets, bonnets and gowns.  The ladies have worked hard this year and I have all that the Nurse needs packed up and ready to go.  I even made up some bonnets for them.

Boxes are still sent regularly to our local Hospitals and two others that requested items.  I have received donations of hats, blankets and gowns from ladies that make them too.  Can never have enough.  Occasionally hats and blankets are requested for Memory Boxes.  Guess I can say I stay busy.

Year's End

Latest Update:

Hello to all that visit this site.  I haven't been active on it in a while due to illness and my crazy life.  I still have a few other hobbies.  It seems since I retired I have loads of things to do.  I do keep up with my hobby and continue to make hats, gowns and fleece blankets.  I have a spare room that is loaded with fleece of all colors and yarn too.  I have donated well over 2,000 blankets and hats.  There are a few ladies that donate crocheted blankets and hats, a big thank you goes out to them.

I continue to supply our local NICU's and CHOPS in Philadelphia, Pa.  A Hospital in Florida called me and wanted to know if they could have some things.  The next day their box went out.  I had some that I donated to our local Vet.  They needed them for the pets after surgery to make them comfy.  They were quite pleased.  I made some larger ones as lap covers for the patients at a Nursing Home that my daughter works at.  They were also well accepted.

So I might not be on here but yes, I am still working hard to make sure all those little ones have blankies and hats.

So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!! Thank you all for making this site a success.

Have a good one......Nan

Just Saying Hi!

Hello to all who stop by.  So glad you have come for a visit.  Hope you like  all the patterns.  I am keeping busy making hats, gowns and fleece blankets.  I am also trying to add new NICU's to the ones I supply now.  I still have lots of yarn and fleece and add to my stash frequently.

Soon I hope to post some new patterns, so be sure to stop back and check.

Easter Already

Hello to all.  I didn't think it was this long since I have posted.  I have been in and out of the hospital this year.  I spent New Years in the hospital, and 9 days after that.

I am continuing to make hats and fleece blankets for the Preemies.  Just sent 4 boxes out last week.  A social Worker from a Florida NICU contacted me wanting to know if I could send them things.  Yes, the box was sent in 2 days.  I feel great knowing that I am helping these tiny tots.  I am working on a new bodice and when all the bugs are out I will post it.  I do hope everyone is enjoying the site and the patterns.  Remember to give me credit if you post them anywhere.

If you want to donate money for postage, I would appreciate it.  Yes, I still use my own money for yarn, fleece and postage.  I will continue this project as long as I can.

Here's hoping everyone has a Happy Easter.  Give a loved one a hug.

Have a good one.....Nan......

Moving Along

Wow! Is it really December and the end of another year?  This year has brought good and bad to us, but I get up in the morning and thank God I am still here.

Ruffle scarf season has started.  I had some made up before I handed the bag to Stacy.  Take them to work and sell them.  So far so good.  All the money still goes into the Preemie fund for fleece and yarn.  If anyone is interested I can post pics of the scarves.  The weather is suppose to turn cold so maybe I can start hibernating with my yarn.  Stay warm.

Thank you!!!!

I Have been blogging on this site almost two years now.  It all started with a few hats, then I added blankets, gowns and cuddle sacs.  I often wondered if there was really a need for these things.  Then I found out there was.  I started a facebook account first.  Then laying in bed one night, I knew I had to start a blog.  At 2:00 in the morning I am in the living room trying to start another blog, wondering if anyone will really visit.  I know that these patterns are needed because I looked for some patterns and they were all the same.  These babies need hats for their heads, tiny blankets of their size, little gowns for the babies that don't stay very long, pretty ones not plain.  I never thought I would get so many followers and even on Facebook I have 400 followers.

I want to thank each and every one of you for following me, for making and donating things to the Preemies, and for making this site a success.

Recently a Hospital contacted me saying they were in need of hats and blankets.  I have been working on hats and blankets in every spare moment.  I now have a mountain of blankies and quite a few hats ready to be sent.  So call your local NICU and see if they are in need and get busy.

                                               Thank you all.

Hats! Hats!

Hello to all my lovely followers and to all the people who stop by.  I know a lot of you use the patterns and I am glad that you do.  There is really a need in all communities for hats and gowns for the tiny babies.  If there is anyone out there who would like to donate hats or gowns or even crocheted blankets to Grandma Nancy's Attic contact me.  I can always use the help.  Also if you know of a NICU that is in need, let me know.  Thank you in advance.  Hope to hear from you.

Christmas Hats

Halloween hats have been sent.   Christmas hats are on the crochet hook.   Just keep the yarn coming and I am happy.  At least some things will be ready for Christmas.  I also have some Christmas blankets ready too.  Waiting for the fabric to go on sale next week to get more.  Will post pics for everyone to see,

Continue To Make Items

Hello everyone.  Just an update for everyone.  On occasion I run out and go to all the craft stores around here.  Joann Fabric is # 1 on my list.  Next I hit A C Moores.  Michael's is next.  Occasionally I stop at Hobby Lobby.  Then I go home and it is usually two trips to the car to empty out.  There is always a new fleece or yarn that I don't have.  Christmas fleece should be coming soon.

I have been sending to NICU's all over.  I get plenty of requests on my Facebook site ~ Crochet Preemie Hats ~ for blankets at NICU's that are really in need of hats, blankets and gowns.  One Hospital is in need of Swaddling blankets that have Velcro closures.  A new item for me.  I have found them a few.  If anyone is interested in sending some give me a holler.  I am looking for some help with Halloween hats and Christmas hats.  In the mean time it is crocheting or sewing in all my spare time.  I just love it!

Memory Boxes

I know some women know what Memory Boxes are.  I never really did until I started making preemie hats.  The first time I had a request for hats for the boxes I wasn't sure what they needed.  It took quite a bit of communicating to get it right.  Now I get requests and I know exactly what is needed.  Tiny hats and 12 x 12 fleece blankets are the right things for the boxes.  It gives the parents something to hold to remind them of the little one they lost.  As soon as I get some made up, out the door they go.  It really is rewarding to do this.

I still haven't run out of yarn ~ don't tell them that I buy more weekly.  I can't run out.  Those babies count on me!

Here is an assortment that goes out.

1,000 Blankets

When I first started this project, I told everyone I wanted to have a goal of 1,000 blankets.  I never thought I could really do it.  My latest stats are hats ~ 933, blankets ~ 1212, cuddle sacs ~ 42, and gowns ~ 53.  Yes, I made my goal, and no, I am not stopping.  Now these totals are only items I have sent to all different states, Canada and England.  I do try to keep my inventory going and it seems as soon as I get my items done, someone has a need.  Really, I am glad.  I still supply the local hospitals, a few in other states, and some ladies are doing boxes for bereaved parents.  They request small hats and 12 x 12 blankets to place in the boxes.  Since I pay for all of my own materials and yarns, I request postage.  If at any time anyone wants to help let me know.  I do have a few ladies that have donated items to send.  So I send a big "Thank You" to all.

Keeping Busy

I am very happy with the progress of this blog.  I can't believe how many requests I get for items.  I am supplying quite a few hospitals with blankets and hats.  Some request things from others and they send me a request and I send them items.  I even got cards to attach to the crocheted items.  I wanted something smaller so I got my tiny doll out and designed a gown for him.  Oh it came out cute.  Attached is a picture of a Preemie and Micro preemie gown.  It still amazes me that there are babies that small.

So if anyone else out there is thinking of doing the same ~ go ahead, you are needed out there.  Good luck.

New Year

Happy New Year to everyone.  Hope your year has started off well.  I continue my effort to make lots of items for the Preemies.  I have fleece to cut and sew, yarn that needs to go from a skein to an item for the babies and in between make scarves to sell.  I bet if I really tried I could crochet in my sleep.  I have made a few stitches with my eyes closed!  We now have snow and it has turned cold.  I am perfectly content to sit and watch the birds and crochet at the same time.  In the mean time...

Christmas Eve

Hello everyone.  It is Christmas Eve and all is quiet here.  We have no small children in the house so it really is quiet.  We are also awaiting an inch or two of snow.  I have been working hard making ruffle scarves while my daughter sells them.  All the money has gone to buying more supplies for the preemies.  I have also just sent another box of blankets and hats out.  This one went to Kentucky.  The packages are really getting around.  I do hope to continue this project next year.  Just remember if you want to help with postage or supplies, just hit the donation button.

For all the repeat viewers, thank you for coming back.  I am glad that this site is helping so many others pursue the same path that I am taking.  It helps so many.  I saw a picture of a tiny preemie that had passed, he had a hat on that was too big, and a crocheted square that had slits in it for his little arms.  After seeing this I continue to make smaller hats because there is a need for them and tiny garments.  So give a hand and make others happy.  In the mean time

                                           Merry Christmas!!!!!

Have a good one.....Nan...

Busy

I have really been busy cutting and sewing all the fleece I bought for the babies.  My husband's office looks like the fleece factory but he doesn't mind.  I am also making ruffle scarves to sell.  The profits go towards the fleece.  Plus I am making hats and things in between.  No there isn't 24 hours to a day, there are more.

I have been working on a new pattern for a gown.  Will post when it is all done.

Thank you to those who have given me donations.  I do use it to buy more supplies.  Lots of ladies have asked for hats for "Memory Boxes" and I have been sending hats and small blankets for the boxes.  They are for the Moms who have babies born too soon or born sleeping as they say.  I still provide things for NICU'S.  The latest to get a box was St Josephs in Arizona.

Just wanted to update everyone.  I do have a site on Facebook too.  www.crochet Preemie Hats
if anyone is interested.

Fleece Party

Black Friday is a day I don't like going out to the mall or stores.  That is the rule I lived by until Joann Fabric's flyer came in the mail!  Fleece was on sale for $2.99 a yard and then a coupon for 25% off the final total, yes I will be there as early as I can.  I was up and ready to leave by 8:00.  It's going to be great, hardly any traffic.  Don't see many people either.  When the car was parked, I noticed people coming out of the store with carts piled high with fleece.  Good, I want to get some too for the babies.  I waited for a cart and then off I went.  I headed straight for the fleece aisle.  There were some new patterns that I claimed.  A lot were missing.  I strolled up to the cutting counter to pick a number.  Mine was 71 and they were on 44!  I am in for a wait.  I stood still for a few minutes and they weren't moving customers too fast because everyone had lots of fleece to be measured in their carts.

I went to another section of the store to get yarn for the scarves I am selling then picked a few other things up and returned to the cutting counter.  Every once in a while one of the workers would go by with a cart of fleece to return to the display and I grabbed some new ones.  It took 2 hours before it was my turn, but that was okay.  I got my pretties cut and off to the register I went.  Good thing I don't have to hide this from anyone ~ there are too many bags!

Catching Up

It's been really busy here.  I have been filling orders for hats, blankets, cuddle sacs and gowns.  It got to the point I was falling behind on everything.  I had a few hats left and not much else.  Then I hit the craft stores.  One by one I bought all the pretty fleece I could find and also yarn that I didn't have.  Got some really good deals too.  I had quite a few large bags by the time I got home.  Bob just laughed.  It took a few days, but I finally got all the fleece cut and made into pretty little blankets.  Now I can sit and crochet.  I went into automatic mode.  I made quite a few hats, a few cuddle sacs, and let's not forget the gowns.  Some of the things. like the gowns are already ordered.  I have a few boxes ready to be shipped, one is going to England.  Yes, I am still enjoying what I am doing and will keep it up as long as I can.   So please keep the donations coming.  I really appreciate the help.  Tomorrow if my camera will let me, I will post a new hat pattern I just made yesterday.....

Updating

Well we survived The Halloween Superstorm Sandy.  This storm had many different names.  I am just glad it is gone from here.  Our power and phones went out, so I had a bit of time to clean up some of my projects.  I have a few hats for adults to finish up, scarves are also on the list.  I am selling them to get some funds for the preemie hats.

This project has really started to get off the ground.  I am getting requests for hats and blankets for Memory bags.  It's so nice to be able to help.
